Ricoh SC-10

Human Assistance Camera System

The SC-10 combines a camera, image recognition, and control into a self-contained, compact unit that can help to prevent errors in manual assembly operations. The system guides operators with instructions via a screen that is connected directly to the unit. Once the assembly has been completed, it verifies that it is correct and logs it all into a CSV file, with an option to save the image as well, as a digital audit trail.

The system is able to recognise string data, patterns, colours, and even textures. With a 1/3-inch colour CMOS sensor and two magnification options, it is capable of covering most work assembly benches.

What is the Ricoh SC-10 capable of?

String Data Recognition

Whether it's via keyboard entry or a barcode reader, the SC-10 can accept and check string data.

This can be used to check for parts that have no visually distinguishable features, such as hard disks with different capacities. The part number can be checked to ensure the right one has been fitted.

This data can also be logged as part of the digital audit trail, so it can simply be used just to log the serial number of the part being assembled.

Pattern Recognition and Sequencing

The pattern recognition tool is one of the SC-10's most important tools and covers the majority of the applications it can be used for. Examples include:

  • Packing applications where the presence of a certain number of parts needs to be present within a box.
  • Checking the correct label has been affixed to a part.
  • Ensuring a connector has been positioned in the correct orientation.

When the pattern recognition is coupled with the sequence checking process, the SC-10 becomes a very powerful tool in ensuring assemblies are carried out correctly. Examples of this include:

  • The presence and correct orientation of a part that may be hidden or obscured in later steps of the assembly.
  • Ensuring a components stability by checking the screws have been used and tightened in the right order.
Colour Recognition

The colour recognition tool is useful for assemblies that have unique colours for the parts that are used. Fuse box assemblies are a very good example of this as, although a lot are the same shape and size, their colours denote their amperage rating.
