Binarization belongs to the area of image pre-processing. In order to binarize an image, the values 0 and 1 are allocated to its pixels where in most cases 0 stands for black and 1 for white. Consequently, it is easier to recognise characteristics like position, surface and form of an object.
For binarization of an image thresholding is often used. For the most part fixed thresholds are used, however for uneven illumination dynamic thresholds are preferable.
