Autovimation provides a range of sophisticated industrial camera housings for protection against dust, water, high and low temperatures as well as user interference. Enclosures can be directly mounted onto machine frames and also include tolerance compensation adjustments.
Additionally, the program contains a number of versatile mounting components. For food and pharmaceutical industries, a dedicated series of stainless steel housings is provided.

Colibri − mini cube camera housing
The IP66 Colibri camera enclosure matches small machine vision cameras with 29 x 29 or 30 x 30 mm cross-section and lenses up to 39 mm diameter. With only 50 x 50 mm height x width and 181 or 211 mm length it is only little larger and heavier than camera, lens and connectors. Several cables and connectors up to 20.5 mm diameter can be fed through the special cable gland. The Colibri is the ideal solution for space- and cost-sensitive applications.
Salamander − standard camera size enclosure
The IP67 Salamander enclosure fits most compact machine vision cameras with cross-sections from 29 x 47 to 40 x 40 mm. Available in 4 standard lengths with enclosure extensions, it is easily adjusted to accommodate camera, lens and connectors. Different rear walls permit the waterproof insertion of several cables and connectors of up to 26 mm diameter (42 mm with special rear wall). A conduit tubing system is also available in case the cables have to be protected from the environment. The patented camera mounting ensures a flexible vibration proof camera positioning. Due to the good heat transmission, the enclosure works like a heatsink for the camera reducing the camera temperature up to 20 °C.
A wide range of accessories is available ranging from different mounting kits for enclosure positioning to solutions for dirty, hot or cold environments.
Orca − large camera enclosure
The IP67 Orca enclosure range offers protection for larger cameras up to 62 x 62 mm crosssection. Smaller cameras also fit into the Orca with special adapter plates, if a large ring light or lens requires more room. The Orca is available in 3 standard lengths with different rear walls and 3 front lids. Equipped with the larger 3" window and 65 mm aperture diameter it is possible to use wide-angle lenses without obstruction. Even fisheye lenses with more than 180° viewing angle can be used with the dome lid. The 2" front window allows the use of the wind-curtain and is sufficient for compact lenses with standard focal length.
The Dolphin is a high grade stainless steel enclosure that offers IP69K protection for cameras up to 40 x 40mm cross-section, especially for hygienically demanding areas such as in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Thanks to the patented quick-lock / heat-guide clamping system, there is excellent heat dissipation.
The electropolished V4A stainless steel enclosures avoid corners and edges where dirt or germs could settle. All potential gaps are sealed with FDA approved seals. The new, hygienic mounting system offers a flexible alignment and positioning of the camera in these highly sensitive areas.

The Feuersalamander series is especially designed for use in hygienically demanding applications such as the pharmaceutical and food industry. The protective housings suitable for compact cameras from 47 x 29 to 40 x 40 mm cross-section provide IP66 and IP67 protection with excellent heat dissipation. The enclosure is made from electro-polished, especially corrosion-resistant surgical stainless steel (AISI 316L). Hygienic design minimises corners where dirt or germs could accumulate, the slot of the Feuersalamander mount is covered with an FDA approved seal.
On the outside, the Gecko enclosure features the same dimensions as the Salamander. Due to the thinner wall it offers slightly more room for cameras that just do not fit into the Salamander range. The Gecko is currently used for smart cameras and thermal imaging cameras ‒ with Germanium windows. The Gecko enclosure offers IP66 protection and is available with different rear walls.
Originally developed for underwater TV productions, the Nautilus has the same dimensions as the Orca M. Every critical component like enclosure lids, front window or cable gland is fitted with a double seal. This means even if one seal fails, the camera is still reliably protected. The purpose developed conduit system protects the critical cable entry point from leaks by shielding the cables completely from the water. This way standard cables can be used. The cable exit on the other side of the tube is also sealed water tight in order to prevent any water ingress. According to EN 60529 the Nautilus can be used for up to 10 hours down to 10 m depth of water.
The Mammoth enclosure protects large machine vision cameras up to 90 x 150 mm crosssection, for instance larger line scan or thermal cameras. It is available with 180, 250 and 300 mm internal length. As with other dovetail enclosures, the camera mounts in any position so the front lens can always be placed right behind the front window. Dovetail adapters on 2 enclosure sides ease mounting.
The Chameleon range offers protection for cameras with a sideways viewing direction. The Chameleon S range is available with and without lens tube in order to allow the use of visionsensors and cameras with compact C-mount lenses. Inbuilt LEDs can usually be used if the distance to the front window is not too large. The same counts for the Chameleon L, that adjusts to lens and camera height with help of 4 different heights and the use of a lens tube if necessary. While the Chameleon S and L are made of powder coated aluminium Autovimation now also offers a right angle housing made of surgical stainless steel for increased hygiene and corrosion resistance.
The IP66 laser enclosures are made for typical machine vision lasers with 19 or 20 mm diameter and available in 3 lengths from 120 to 180 mm. The special mounting ring holding the laser inside the enclosure ensures good heat dissipation while allowing a flexible positioning and rotation – important for laser line adjustment. An enclosure extension is available for lasers that require focusing from the side. The laser enclosure mounts directly to the machine with the help of mounting kits or to a dovetail profile using mounting brackets. The latter is often used to build flexible, adjustable but rigid laser triangulation set-ups. The laser and camera enclosures can be mounted vertically or at a rotational angle to the profile. Height adapters ensure that the optical axis of both vision components are in the same plane.
Autovimation offers wind curtains and pneumatic shutters that allow the use of camera systems in dirty environments. Wind curtains keep the window largely free of dust and light moisture mist, maximising cleaning intervals.
Pneumatic shutters seal the front window hermetically during image acquisition breaks. Application examples are positioning checks prior to milling in a machining centre, where coolant and chips would contaminate or even scratch the window. A windcurtain can help to keep the window clean during the opening of the shutter. Autovimation offers an extension tube for the wind curtain that increases its efficiency with image angles up to 40 degrees.
In case cameras and laser have to be used at ambient temperatures above 45 °C in most cases active cooling is required. For this Autovimation offers the Turtle enclosures with Peltier-climatisation and a complete, modular water cooling system for all dovetail enclosures. The Turtle enclosure range has been developed for outdoor use in challenging climatic conditions, because the Peltier mechanism only requires a power supply, which can be realised by solar cells. These enclosures have been used successfully for years now in the world's hottest deserts and keep the camera below maximum operating temperatures at up 70 °C ambient temperature and up to 1 kW of solar radiation. The Peltier controller permanently monitors the camera temperature and automatically switches between cooling and heating operation according to the set temperature levels.
Autovimation's water cooling system is suited for industrial applications, for instance allowing camera use in climate chambers. It consists of water cooling modules for laser and camera enclosures which are connected through a closed water circuit with a cooling unit. This unit containing radiator, fans, pump and controller requires a location with moderate ambient temperature not more than 20 m away from the enclosure. In return the water cooling set-up allows the operation of laser and cameras at temperatures from -50 to 200 °C without further insulation.
Both, Peltier- and water-cooling controller permanently monitor the camera temperature and provide an alarm output that can be used to protect the camera. For outside camera use in a moderate climate or in a cold store, heating of the enclosure may be sufficient. For these applications Autovimation provides a controlled heating plate that mounts to the side of the enclosure. Depending on the ambient temperature the heating plate is always heated to the set temperature and can keep the camera above 0 °C at ambient enclosure temperatures down to -50 °C. The large size of the heating plate ensures an even temperature distribution, avoiding dew points and condensation inside the camera housing.
Mounting kits can be used to mount camera enclosures or other vision components directly to the machine. The adapterplate is mounted to a T-Slot profile or to any drilled or tapped holes with 25 or 50 mm spacing. The mounting brackets are then used to mount and adjust the camera system.
More than 20 mounting kits are available for different dovetail sizes. Autovimation offers 6 different slim, robust and easy to adjust dovetail profiles in any length up to 3 m. An enclosure moves along them in a straight line. Once tightened, mounting brackets resist a displacement force of 3000 N. Further mounting options can be created easily by combining the existing adapter plates with one or more mounting brackets or angles available.
