To guarantee the integrity of data, CameraLink HS provides a resend mechanism implemented in the hardware or in the FPGA, as well as a checksum.
The standard uses components from high-speed network technology and uses the concept of multiple channels. Each channel provides a bandwidth of 300 MB/s using a single link, known in the CL-HS field as a "lane", or up to 6 GB/s using up to 20 lanes. Active optical cables (AOC) are also available.
