Thanks to the interchangeable lens systems with Hot-spot Reduction Technology and the variable number of modules the light distribution is adaptable to the field of view and allows to deliver highly even illumination obtaining consequently the best brightness and outstanding images.
The Pulstar lights already integrate features relevant for traffic monitoring applications, like internal timing, intensity control, trigger input and long distance communications for synchronisation with the camera. As a consequence optimal results are achieved at each site to ensure maximum light levels precisely when necessary and delivers an optimized image result.
Depending on your application, you can choose between 3 types of LED (white, infrared 850 nm, infrared 940 nm). For windshield applications, for example to see through the vehicle windscreen, are offered IR 730 nm wavelength lights on request.

The Raytec Pulsestar PSTR strobe lights provide very powerful LED strobe illumination for traffic monitoring applications. This includes automatic number plate recognition, red light violation, open road tolling and vehicle type identification.
Important factors which determine the choice of an illumination for your traffic application ‒ beam angles and intensity
When determining the geometry of a lighting system the critical parameter is how much light intensity arrives at the target area, which translates into an effort to maximise watts per square metre (w/m²). For a given light, as the beam angle increases the intensity at the target (w/m²) decreases. Therefore it is important to optimise the beam angle, which is a result of optics design and is very important to lighting system performance. A well-defined beam reduces both wasted light and light pollution, as well as energy consumption.
Since there is no real way to measure the 'edge' of light, the beam angle should more correctly be termed and measured from where the light intensity is half of its fullest. The term for this is Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM). Smaller beam angles will have a higher intensity than larger beam angles, which have a larger area
