Vision technology for the food and beverage industry
As Europe's leading provider of machine vision technology and services STEMMER IMAGING has extensive experience working with world leading equipment manufacturers, systems integrators and end volume end users in many aspects of food production from automated harvesting, processing, sorting and portioning right through to validating the packaging and labels before shipment.
The new Dimension range of lenses from Zeiss has been designed for precise high-end applications, where distortion, vignetting and colouring issues must be minimised. Developed specifically for C-mount cameras, these new lenses provide high contrast, razor-sharp images, even at maximum aperture. They are virtually distortion-free across the entire area of sensors up to 4/3” and can resolve pixel sizes down to 2 μm.
The LXE300 Direct Connect line light and Connect-a-Light line light, Prox spot light and Brick spot light ranges of machine vision lights from Smart Vision Lights are now available in SWIR (Short Wavelength InfraRed) wavelengths. This opens up an extensive number of application opportunities not possible using visible light.
Part of the new TH2 series of flat machine vision LEDs from CCS Inc, the high output TH2-PM family of backlights have been optimised to give highly directional illumination. This makes them ideally suited to dimensional measurements where accurate imaging of the outline of objects is needed and other transmission imaging applications.
Bergader Privatkäserei, established in 1902, relies on state-of-the-art technology as well as traditional craftsmanship in the manufacture of its cheese specialities. A hyperspectral imaging system is being used for the first time for the packaging of the blue cheese ‘Bergader Edelpilz’.
Vision technology has a crucial role to play in offering manufacturers in the food industry a competitive advantage. One important area is packaging, where both the quality of the packaging itself and the markings on it need to be checked. TriVision, based in Odense, Denmark, has developed two vision-based systems featuring vision components supplied by STEMMER IMAGING, which provide 100% inspection of packaging at the manufacturing stage and of the final product. These are in use with leading companies in the dairy industry such as RPC Superfos and Arla Foods.
The Swiss company, Leuthold Mechanik AG (HLM) makes machines for manufacturing aluminium containers which, among other things, are used for packaging pet food and foodstuffs. A core element of quality assurance is machine vision by STEMMER IMAGING.
