Flat-Field Correction

Technique used to compensate for sensor non uniformity caused by Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) and PRNU (Photo Response Non Uniformity) as well as (where necessary) uneven lighting.

The flat-field correction (FFC) uses digital subtractive offset correction and multiplicative gain correction to correct each individual pixel. Without this correction, the camera displays different pixel values when recording a homogeneous object.

This process is performed real-time in hardware, either on the acquisition board or inside the camera itself.
