Organic light - OLEDs as novel lighting components in machine vision

Organic light emitting diodes are flat, homogeneous and energy-efficient areal light-ing elements which offer interesting options for machine vision.

The outstanding features of OLEDs are their extremely flat design (see Fig. 1) and the areal emission characteristics which differentiate them greatly from conventional light sources. Thin layer encapsulation is used in place of the lower glass cover al-lowing reduction of the overall thickness to less than one millimetre.
