Look-up tables make it easy to perform preprocessing operations such as remapping of pixel values to other pixels, applying gamma to a particular colour or using pseudo-colors. By modifying certain gray values or binarizing images, information in the image can already be reduced in the camera, which relieves the CPU.
Allied Vision Guppy PRO
Robust and compact IEEE1394b camera
The Allied Vision Guppy PRO is an ultra-compact camera series equipped with a fast IEEE 1394b interface. With housing dimensions of 29 x 29 x 29 mm it is one of the smallest FireWire cameras on the market for industrial machine vision.
The cameras provide one IEEE 1394b interface on the rear, plus one Hirose connector for power and I/Os. The Guppy PRO cameras use high quality, high sensitivity CCD and CMOS sensors in monochrome and colour and are available in resolutions from VGA up to 5 megapixels.

By offering functionality that would otherwise be provided by external components, implementation time and cost can be reduced, while making maintenance easier by having less components in the system.
