New camera family with GigE Vision or USB3 Vision interface

3 Sep 2013

The newly launched, ultra-compact family of Mako cameras from AVT will be the first in STEMMER IMAGING’s camera portfolio to be available with either a GigE Vision or USB3 Vision data interface. AVT is a founding member of the Standardization Committee for USB3 Vision. In either format, the entry-level Mako camera family is characterised by its outstanding cost/performance ratio and its small footprint of just 29 x 29 mm.

Nine Mako models with the GigE Vision interface and resolutions ranging from VGA up to 4 megapixels are currently available. The range includes CCD sensors as well as CMOS sensors with Global Shutter, including CMOS varieties with increased near-infrared sensitivity. Power can be supplied either using the Power over Ethernet interface or from an external 24V supply using a Hirose connector.

The Mako serie features four CCD models: Mako G-032 B/C deliver 102 frames per second in VGA resolution by using ICX424 HAD sensors, the Mako G-125 B/C cameras supply 30 frames per second in SXGA resolution, based on a ICX445 ExViewHAD sensor. For the CMOS sensor based models, versions with 2 and 4 Megapixel resolution in colour and monochrome as well as a NIR version are currently available. The VGA CMOS camera Mako G-030B/C is announced to be produced starting from end of this year.

The new USB3 Vision standard has been eagerly anticipated, with improved data transfer rates of up to 400 Mbyte/s, and no need for a frame grabber. Mako USB3 Vision models will also be available with VGA resolution as well as 2 and 4 megapixel CMOS sensors from CMOSIS (CMV2000 and CMV4000). There will also be corresponding NIR-sensitive variations. According to AVT, prototypes of these USB3 Vision cameras will be available end of 2013 and the production is planned to start in the first quarter 2014.

Allied Vision Mako

Measuring only 49.5 x 29 x 29 mm this entry level camera is an excellent price/performance offering from Allied Vision. With CCD, CMOS, CMOS with increased infrared sensitivity and a polarisation sensor, there are plenty of options to suit various applications.
