The new board is based on the PCI Express 8x interface, whereby Teledyne DALSA designed the internal architecture and driver support both 32 and 65 Bit- compatible. This also makes the Xcelera PX8 HS-Link suitable for the next generation of operating systems. It provides a bandwidth of 1.8 GBytes per second for image acquisition as well as 2 GBytes/second for data transfer to the host.
The comprehensive onboard pre-processing features of the frame grabber include tap sorting, look-up tables, Bayer decoding, flat field/flat line corrections, and correction of bright and dark pixels.
Practice-relevant machine connectivity was also taken into account and the board is fitted with numerous connections for triggers, strobes, rotary encoders, digital I/Os, status LEDs, and voltage supply. All inputs are also fitted with a »Trigger-to-Image-Reliability« functionality. This technology ensures that images are sent to the computer's memory following a trigger signal, or that errors are listed in case of faults, and that automatic system regeneration is guaranteed.
On the software side the board is supported by the Sapera software library as well as the Common Vision Blox and already offers users numerous examples of all common programming languages. This allows easy integration for all customer-specific applications without affecting flexibility.
Together with the new cameras Piranha HS-12k and Piranha3 16k CMOS, the Xcelera PX8 HS-Link presents an extremely high-performance combination.
With HS-Link, Teledyne DALSA has defined a powerful interface for image processing which is specifically designed to meet industry requirements and provides a scaleable bandwidth of up to 6 Gbytes/s. HS-Link utilizes the key strengths of the CameraLink Standard, but includes additional features and functions to meet the current and future requirements of image processing users. Teledyne DALSA is committed to providing HS-Link as an open standard for industry and has proposed that further development should be assumed by the CameraLink committee of the Automated Imaging Association.
