The primary benefit for VIS-SWIR correction is that it allows an image to remain in focus even when the wavelength changes from visible to infrared or vice versa. With a standard visible, NIR or SWIR lens, a focus shift will occur due to differences in the refractive index if the wavelength fluctuates. However, by incorporating extra low dispersion (XD) glass and carefully aligning all internal lens elements, such focus shift problems are eliminated.
Transmission from 450 nm up to 2000 nm with reduced focus shift
Kowa LM-HC-VIS-SWIR lenses with a transmission of 450-2000 nm cover the range from visible to SWIR with the advantage of a reduced focus shift.
The lenses are suitable for a large number of applications with VIS-SWIR and hyperspectral cameras to precisely analyse the reflection properties of materials over a wide range of wavelengths. This is often used in machine vision for material analysis and grading.
