Knowledge base
Learn more about machine vision! In our knowledge base we are explaining key technical terms about image processing. We give you an overview to topics like 3D machine vision or the established standards like CameraLink, GigE Vision or GenICam.
A deep dive into polarisation
You remember it from school, how it reduced glare from certain angles of light, and you know your sunglasses are meant to do the same ... but do you really know how the light is controlled?
Acquisition: CameraLink
CameraLink is administered by the AIA (Automated Imaging Association) and is an official standard.
Acquisition: CameraLink HS
CameraLink HS has a long history even though the standard itself is young. With the ever increasing camera speeds "classic" CameraLink standard is not able to scale easily beyond 850 MB/s, so another new interface was needed to meet the needs of ever higher bandwidths at the same or even lower cost.
Acquisition: CoaXPress
CoaXPress (CXP) is the second beyond CameraLink standard that was established a few years ago. In the simplest version, power, control and data for the remote device are send via a single coaxial cable.
Acquisition: GenICam
The GenICam standard (GENeric Interface for CAMeras) provides generic software interfaces for all kinds of machine vision cameras whatever their hardware interface. The underlying interface used, for example, GigE Vision or CameraLink, is of no relevance. New technologies such as Camera Link HS, CoaXPress, or USB3 Vision, also rely on the GenICam standard.
Acquisition: Gigabit Ethernet
Gigabit Ethernet has been driven by industry's need for faster networking communication. The term 'Ethernet' relates to the physical layer (2) in the networking stack model.
Acquisition: GigE Vision
The data rates enabled by Gigabit Ethernet, in combination with the excellent support of many devices, make this technology a good choice for imaging applications.
Acquisition: GigE Vision - Device Discovery
Part of the GigE Vision standard allowing devices on the network to be found.
Acquisition: GigE Vision - driver implementation
The performance level of a GigE Vision system depends strongly on the hardware and software components. High-performance or filter drivers have a strong impact.
Acquisition: GigE Vision - GVCP (GigE Vision Control Protocol)
Part of the GigE Vision standard dealing with the control of cameras.
Acquisition: GigE Vision - GVSP (GigE Vision Streaming Protocol)
Part of the GigE Vision standard dealing with data streaming.
