Glossaire technique
Advanced illumination solutions
Getting the best image is a combination of the right illumination, the right lensing and filters to complement and enhance the features in the image with a camera that is set up correctly.
Backlight illumination - diffuse
Technique positioning a diffuse illuminator behind the object to produce a silhouette.
Bright field illumination
Most common technique for illuminating diffuse, non-refelctive objects.
Cable testing and validation
As vision systems evolve, we tend to see more cameras per system, faster data rates and the use of network technology between the camera and PC. All these factors increase demands on the cabling and poor cabling or incorrect network switches can have serious effects.
Cable: Definition of cable types
In imaging and machine vision selecting the right cable can be an important consideration. A wide range of technical requirements, including mechanical, thermal or chemical impacts, have to be considered. The following table gives a short overview of the most common cabling specifications used for imaging and available from STEMMER IMAGING.
Camera features and functionalities
Image fidelity, Exposure time, Frame rate
Camera manufacturers include a wide range of functions in their products to meet the increasing demands of the industrial market. Some of the key camera characteristics and common features are discussed in this section.
Camera interfaces
Interfacing cameras to computers for image processing has changed significantly in the last few years. In recent years the industry put a lot of effort into standardisation and several standards such as CameraLink, DCAM/IIDC and GigE Vision emerged. In addition GenICam has been approved, offering genuine ‘plug and play’ functionality for industrial vision cameras.
