Most defence and security applications we work on use embedded computing platforms rather than conventional industrial PCs, for reasons of size, power consumption, ruggedness, and installation constraints. MIL-STD-810H is a US military standard defining environmental test methods, covering vibration, mechanical shock, temperature extremes, humidity, sand and dust, and salt fog. For camera selection, these requirements translate into specific decisions on housing sealing, connector type, and protective window material. We support customers in matching components to the relevant test categories for their application.
Interface selection depends on the application and processing architecture. For embedded, low-latency deployments, MIPI CSI-2, LVDS, and GMSL are commonly used. GigE Vision, CoaXPress, and HD-SDI are better suited to applications requiring longer cable runs or compatibility with existing infrastructure. We support customers in matching the interface to the platform from the outset.
